Position: Temp FT (1.0) Indigenous Transition Coach/Support Teacher (2026-27)

Position Description

A temporary full‑time (1.0) Indigenous Transition Coach/Support Teacher is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective September 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027. The assignment will be rney Middle School.

Dr. Kearney Middle School is a vibrant middle school offering classes in grades 7‑9. We enroll a diverse student population of 600, 25% of whom are of Indigenous descent. We have an active Parent Advisory Committee and a supportive parent community. Our school is committed to student‑centered learning, a focus on collaborative planning, and a caring environment to provide quality education.

Qualifications And Experience
  • Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
  • Qualifications and demonstrated ability to teach the identified subjects at the middle years level
  • Experience with universal design and differentiation to meet the diverse needs of students
  • Excellent interpersonal, communications, collaboration and organization skills
  • Experience/training/knowledge of Social Emotional Learning. Demonstrated ability to create a positive classroom community contributing to a safe, caring, and healthy school where every student feels a sense of belonging
  • Strong belief in the philosophy of inclusion and the potential of all students to learn
  • Understanding of the BC Curriculum and ability to plan both short‑term and long‑term in consideration of class composition
  • Willingness to work in a collaborative model with staff on the foundation of enhancing student learning
  • Demonstrated use of classroom management practices that are pro‑active and maintain student dignity
  • Demonstrated use of assessment practices that promote student learning and maintain student dignity
  • Experience Working with First Nations Communities and schools around the academics and social‑emotional well‑being of Indigenous Students
  • Providing tutorial support in 1:1 settings, small groups and in the classroom – emphasis on numeracy and literacy skills
  • Recent coursework in First Nations Studies
  • Knowledge and ability to promote appropriate Indigenous culture within the program
  • Collaborate effectively with Administrators, Indigenous team, and classroom teachers to improve student success
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrated Indigenous content and principles of learning across subject areas
  • Regularly monitor student attendance and learning programs
  • Identify and monitor student development through:
    Response to Intervention (RTI) model and other effective educational strategies
  • Ability to do Indigenous Student "Learning Journeys" and assist with Student Learning Plans
  • Must adhere to the Transition Coach/Support Teacher responsibility timeline provided by Indigenous Administrator
  • All student service must be documented in Insight
  • Ability to work independently and with all Indigenous team members
  • Oral and written fluency in an Indigenous language would be an asset
  • Valid BC drivers license, local travel will required the use of a personal vehicle
  • Preference will be given to qualified applicants of Indigenous ancestry
  • Other duties assigned by the Dr. Kearney Administration and District Indigenous Principal

  • Verification of qualifications (BC Teacher Certificate)
Compensation
  • $2000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4000 for teachers from other areas
  • $3,035 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)
  • Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $65,397 - $111,952
  • Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enroll in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance. Benefits are employer paid based on FTE
