Position: Temp PT (0.4) District Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Teacher/Coach (2026-27)

Position Description

Starting September 1, 2026, the District is looking for a temporary part‑time (0.4) FTE District Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Teacher/Coach. The role collaborates with district and school staff to build capacity in supporting social‑emotional learning in classrooms and involves leading, organizing, and delivering professional learning opportunities to educators, ensuring that SEL is effectively integrated into instructional practices at Tier 1 (universal design) from Kindergarten through Grade 6.

Key Responsibilities Leadership in Social Emotional Learning
  • Facilitate the goals and strategies of the Framework for Enhancing Student Learning, with a focus on Human and Social Development.
  • Provide professional learning opportunities for educators on integrating SEL into classroom instruction across all grade levels.
Support for Schools and Educators
  • Guide schools in understanding SEL and its connections to curricular areas.
  • Assist in developing effective intervention strategies for students who require additional SEL support.
  • Promote and model trauma‑informed practices.
  • Help educators select research‑based SEL resources and appropriate instructional materials aligned with Casel SEL competencies and the BC Curriculum Core Competencies.
Professional Development and Capacity Building
  • Provide demonstration lessons and facilitate collaborative learning opportunities.
  • Offer in‑service training, after‑school workshops, and professional learning sessions on SEL‑related topics.
  • Support school‑based learning teams in implementing SEL strategies and assessments.
  • Coordinate external presenters and specialists to provide additional SEL training for staff.
Data‑Informed SEL Implementation
  • Collaborate with district and school teams to collect, analyze, and interpret SEL‑related data (MDI, YDI and Student Learning Surveys).
  • Support schools in implementing SEL assessments to measure student growth and effectiveness of interventions.
Equity and Inclusion in SEL
  • Demonstrate awareness of cross‑cultural factors that influence students’ social‑emotional development.
  • Embed the First Peoples Principles of Learning into SEL instruction and professional learning.
  • Engage families and caregivers in understanding and supporting SEL at home and in school communities.
Qualifications And Experience
  • Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for).
  • Experience with universal design and differentiation to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, collaboration, and organization skills.
  • Experience/training/knowledge of Social Emotional Learning and the ability to create a positive classroom community contributing to a safe, caring, and healthy school where every student feels a sense of belonging.
  • Strong belief in the philosophy of inclusion and the potential of all students to learn.
  • Understanding of the BC Curriculum and ability to plan both short‑term and long‑term in consideration of class composition.
  • Willingness to work in a collaborative model with staff on the foundation of enhancing student learning.
  • Demonstrated use of classroom management practices that are pro‑active and maintain student dignity.
  • Demonstrated use of assessment practices that promote student learning and maintain student dignity.
  • Knowledge of trauma‑informed practice, inclusive education, and research‑based SEL strategies.
  • Strong facilitation skills in adult learning and professional development.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with educators, school teams, and district staff.
Interested Applicants Are Required To Supply
  • Three (3) references.
  • Verification of qualifications (BC Teacher Certificate).
Compensation
  • $2,000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon, and up to $4,000 for teachers from other areas.
  • $3,035 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE).
  • Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $65,397 – $111,952.
  • Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enroll in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance. Benefits are employer paid based on FTE.
