Salary:
Classification 13, $54,454.97 - $56,139.14 annually as per BCGEU Support Collective Agreement. Annual vacation (119 hours) is pro‑rated and front‑loaded. We offer competitive extended health and dental benefits (eligible after 6 months of work), as well as time off for family illness, personal illness, and other special leaves. Closure during the Christmas Break (Dec 25 - Jan
1) of each year is paid time off. Enrollment in the Municipal Pension Plan is mandatory for all regular, full‑time staff with contributions matched by the Employer.
As the Indigenous Cultural Guide, you will offer a culturally responsive, holistic, and respectful approach to services to support Indigenous student success. You will work closely with the Director of Indigenous Education and the Indigenous Student Navigators to support both indigenization and reconciliation learning opportunities with non‑Indigenous students and staff.
Responsibilities include coordinating and planning cultural events and activities, connecting with local Elders, reaching out to community stakeholders, and arranging appropriate Nation performers and Elders to provide cultural ceremonies and entertainment for events. You will lead cultural connections resulting in increased engagement with Indigenous students, ensuring they are supported and encouraged for their success and wellness. You will engage students through cultural teachings and contextual Indigenous learning during weekly sessions using story, oral history, demonstration, and experiential learning.
Expected working hours are 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, with flexibility for evening events. This position supports both Fort St. John and Dawson Creek campuses and may involve weekly travel within the region.
Qualifications- Successfully completed grade 12.
- Two years of relevant post‑secondary education with an additional 3–5 years of relevant experience working with Indigenous students, communities, and Elders. A combination of education and experience may also be considered.
- Demonstrated experience and cultural training to lead and support traditional and contemporary Indigenous art and activities, including teaching and guiding knowledge of Indigenous art, song, dance, and storytelling.
- Excellent and respectful communication and interpersonal skills with an intercultural understanding of non‑verbal communication to manage and respond strategically for event planning and management.
- Ability to understand and appreciate cultural diversity among Indigenous Peoples in Canada and the college service area, with a service excellence approach toward Elders, students and staff.
- High standard of work in a fast‑paced environment and ability to contribute collaboratively to the team.
- A current, valid driver’s license.
