Term of App’pt: Temporary, FT (Monday - Friday, 35 hrs/week until Dec 24.26)

Start date: Immediately

Reporting to: Manager of Student Recruitment

Salary: Classification 12, $29.26 – 30.17 per hour, as per the BCGEU Support Collective Agreement. Temporary employees are provided an additional $0.58 on regular earnings in lieu of benefits, and 6% vacation pay, for all regular hours worked. The period between Christmas and New Year's Day is unpaid time off.

Description

Northern Lights College's Recruitment team is looking to hire a student-centered individual who has an extensive understanding of Indigenous student experiences and educational challenges that would be able to promote leadership and mentorship to the Indigenous student body through promotion of opportunities.

The Indigenous Student Recruiter will be the primary recruitment staff member supporting Indigenous communities, events and activities; inspiring and motivating prospective Indigenous students to become qualified and enrolled in Northern Lights College. As the successful candidate, you will promote the College's programs and services through a variety of platforms including face‑to‑face or virtual appointments, school visits, campus tours, college and community events, Indigenous community visits, Indigenous‑focused workshops, and digital communication tactics.

Working closely with the Manager of Student Recruitment and the Director of Indigenous Education, you will support, plan, and implement various internal and external recruitment activities. This role will work alongside the Indigenous Student Navigators to help identify barriers, assist applicants and facilitate connections within the College; as well as with appropriate external community service providers when required.

The location of this position will be determined in conversation with the successful candidate. We are willing to entertain the possibility of a summer student for the work up to the end of August; with an overlap of a secondary hire to be in place until December 24.26

Qualifications

Required:

  • Successful completion of a post‑secondary program from a recognized institution.
  • Familiarity with both the secondary and post‑secondary environments; with an understanding of the student’s life cycle from admission to the college through to the graduation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an intercultural understanding of non‑verbal communication.
  • Must be able to understand and appreciate cultural diversity among the Indigenous People in Canada.
  • Outstanding promotional skills, that has the ability to engage prospective Indigenous students and audiences.
  • Dynamic, energetic personality with excellent public speaking skills.
  • Previous experience with online/digital recruiting activities such as webinars, slideshows, appointments etc. and the ability to organize effective workshops and presentations for a variety of diverse and different‑sized audiences.
  • Ability to multi‑task and prioritize while meeting tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently, with minimum supervision, and be collaborative with the team and other stakeholders.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to lift and transport display and presentation equipment & materials (heavy lifting).
  • Must be willing to travel and have a current valid Driver’s License.

Preference:

  • Three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
  • Working knowledge and experience with a Student Information System (such as Colleague).
  • Experience with in an Indigenous community or an Indigenous education setting.
  • Advanced knowledge of Indigenous Peoples and Culture.
