Certified Education Assistant / School Meals Replacement Step #2 Position Description
There is a position at Duncan Cran Elementary School for a Certified Education Assistant / School Meals Replacement Step #2. This role reports to the site Administrative Officer(s) and works under the direction of the classroom teacher and district staff to provide care and support for students, including daily School Meals duties.
Hours of work: 4.5 hours per day for EA, 1.0 hour per day for School Meals, five days per week.
Duties will commence on September 8, 2026 and continue until June 24, 2027 or upon return of the incumbent. Work year base: ten months per year. Commencing salary: $26.24–$31.43, based on certification, $28.06 – School Meals.
Duties- Provides instructional support to students to implement educational programs and gives feedback for daily work completion.
- Constructs instructional materials, games, displays, and learning centres.
- Operates computers, audiovisual and other equipment, including adaptive technology.
- Supervises student completion of education activities as outlined in the IEP, observing and recording academic and behavioural assessment data to assist teachers in monitoring students.
- Copies, transcribes, types, files, and maintains records.
- Implements behaviour‑management programs as determined by the teacher/resource team.
- Provides person/health care and physical safety assistance to students.
- Attends team/parent professional development meetings as required.
- Assists in the implementation of programs requiring intensive behaviour interventions.
- Supervises students in classroom, gym, school, playground, loading/unloading of buses, and community field trips.
- Fosters student independence and appropriate peer interactions.
- Works collaboratively as a member of a team.
- Mays attend specific workshops at the direction of the Administrative Officer(s).
- Performs other duties assigned that are within the knowledge and skills required by the job description.
- Grade 12 or equivalency.
- Willing to maintain current CPI status.
- Level 1 First Aid Certificate may be required.
- Education Assistant Certificate with documented training in the following areas:
- Pervasive developmental disorders (ASD, FASD, complex behavioural needs).
- Developmental and sensory needs and disorders.
- Personal care (dressing, toileting, feeding, lifting, transferring, seizure management).
- Technology‑assisted programs (augmentative communication devices, Boardmaker, apps, other software).
- Behaviour support (conflict resolution, anger management, non‑violent behavioural interventions, behaviour/safety/crisis/emergency plans).
- Learning challenges (learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, learning challenges).
- Formal POPARD training or experience.
- Proven ability to remain calm in difficult situations.
- Proven ability to develop positive relationships with students.
- Demonstrated flexibility/adaptability in new or challenging situations.
- Physical ability to keep up with an active child.
- Ability to work independently and set priorities.
- WHMIS Certificate and completion of other online safety training provided by the District within the probationary period.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to be an integral part of a team.
- Must pass a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Search conducted by the District prior to starting employment.
- Food Safe Certificate.
- Class 5 driver’s licence with access to a reliable vehicle.
Proof of graduation and/or highest level of education is required prior to starting work.
