Position: Temp PT (0.5) Physical Education/Social Studies Teacher (2026-27)

A temporary part‑time (0.5 FTE) Physical Education/Social Studies Teacher position is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) for the period September 1 2026 to June 30 2027 at Bert Bowes Middle School.

Bert Bowes Middle School is a Grade 7-9 school located in the City of Fort St John with an enrollment of approximately 500 students. The school offers support services including a learning resource disability teacher, teacher for visually impaired, school psychologist, ESL specialist, and teacher for deaf/hard‑of‑hearing students. It emphasizes student‑centred learning and collaborative planning.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible).
  • Demonstrated ability to teach Physical Education and Social Studies at the middle‑years level.
  • Experience with universal design and differentiation to meet diverse student needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Experience/training in Social‑Emotional Learning and ability to create a positive classroom community.
  • Strong belief in the philosophy of inclusion and the potential of all students to learn.
  • Understanding of the BC Curriculum and ability to plan short‑term and long‑term in consideration of class composition.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with staff to enhance student learning.
  • Use of proactive classroom‑management practices that maintain student dignity.
  • Use of assessment practices that promote student learning and maintain student dignity.
Applicant Requirements
  • Three references.
  • Verification of qualifications (BC Teacher Certificate).
Compensation
  • $2,000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB, and Yukon and up to $4,000 for teachers from other areas.
  • $3,500 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE).
  • Salary as per collective agreement: current salary grid $72,720 – $118,770.
  • Benefits as per collective agreement with options to enroll in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance (employer‑paid based on FTE).
