Temp ; French Immersion Primary Teacher

Position Description

A temporary full‑time (1.0) French Immersion Primary Teacher is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective September 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027. The assignment will be at Ecole Central Elementary School.

Ecole Central Elementary School of the Arts is a K‑6, Fine Arts French Immersion school located in Fort St. John, BC. The school offers an early French immersion program beginning in kindergarten. Fourteen percent of the students are of First Nations ancestry. The staff includes 15 teachers, 8 support workers, a principal, a vice‑principal, a reading support teacher, and a librarian.

• Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
• Participation in a French fluency assessment (written & oral)
• Proficiency in written and oral French communication
• Willingness to interview in French with the District's French Language Coordinator
• Practicum experience teaching in French or French Immersion at the intermediate level
• Demonstrated knowledge of a balanced literacy program including guided reading and assessment
• Qualifications and demonstrated ability to teach the identified subjects at the elementary level
• Experience with universal design and differentiation to meet diverse student needs
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, collaboration, and organization skills
• Training in Social Emotional Learning; ability to create a positive classroom community contributing to a safe, caring, and healthy school where every student feels belonging
• Strong belief in inclusion and the potential of all students to learn
• Understanding of the BC Curriculum and ability to plan short‑term and long‑term units considering class composition
• Willingness to work collaboratively with staff to enhance student learning
• Use of proactive classroom management practices that maintain student dignity
• Use of assessment practices that promote student learning and maintain student dignity
• Experience or coursework in teaching at least one Fine Arts strand with ability to contribute to the overall vision of a Fine Arts school
• Integration of computer technology into the learning environment
• Commitment to working with staff on the school plan and professional development

• Verification of qualifications (BC Teacher Certificate)

• $2 000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB, and Yukon; up to $4 000 for teachers from other areas
• $3 500 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)
• Salary as per collective agreement; current salary grid is $72 720 – $118 770
• Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enroll in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance; benefits are employer‑paid based on FTE
