Position: Dawson Creek Secondary School requires a 0.80 FTE TERM Counsellor

The successful applicant will possess, or be willing to complete, a Master's Degree in Counselling and will be an active member of the School Based Team and will support student's academic and social/emotional well being. The candidate will assist students with career exploration, timetabling and will assist school personnel with developing and implementing programs.

The successful applicant will possess, or be willing to complete, a Master's Degree in Counselling and will be an active member of the School Based Team and will support student's academic and social/emotional well being. The candidate will assist students and parents with understanding selection of courses/programs/special service, as well as meet with parents on a regular basis. The successful candidate will regularly consult with the school based Learning Services Team while developing ways of promoting health and career awareness with the school.

Dawson Creek Secondary School (South Peace Campus)
Dawson Creek Secondary School (South Peace Campus) is a school of approximately 600 students in Grades 10 – 12. We employ approximately 50 staff including administration, teachers and support staff. The South Peace Campus is the largest school in School District No. 59 and accounts for approximately 20 percent of the FTE in the entire district.

We have a thriving athletics program at our school that has seen a number of teams win zone championships. We have an excellent relationship with our local college and see a number of our students enter Dual Credit programs each year. In addition to the regular academic courses, we offer a variety of elective courses that include woodwork, metalwork, automotive, robotics, engineering, foods, visual arts, digital arts, theatre and dance.

We also have a well-established music theatre program that puts on a musical production each spring.

The South Peace Campus is a Restorative Practices school where we use focused conversations to solve problems and build empathy. Required Qualifications And Experience

Hold, or be qualified for, a valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate

Successful K-12 teacher training and practicum or evaluation documentation

Legally eligible to work in Canada

Experience with adapting, and modifying, curriculum to meet the needs of students

Ability to develop and implement individualized learning plans for students with diverse needs

Strong classroom management skills

Experience working with students who display a variety of behaviours

Strong literacy and numeracy skills

Willingness to work and implement school initiatives and goals

Capacity to work independently and in collaboration with a team

Committed to individualized and group instruction utilizing a variety of effective strategies and techniques

Experience teaching in a multiage group setting

Engages in fair, student focused assessment practices consistent with the BC curriculum and reporting order, and reflects on evidence of learning to guide instruction
