To work as part of MEMS Reclamation and Construction team in the execution of site assessments and reclamation for upstream oil and gas sites in Western Canada. Assist in assessing reclamation projects according to Alberta and BC regulations and criteria for abandoned well sites; and conducting Detailed Site Assessments, Phase 2 ESA’s, Phase 3 ESA’s, supervision of reclamation projects and technical report writing for clients.

This position requires a combination of office and field work (20/80 split) in a demanding consultative environment.

this position can be based out of our Grande Prairie, AB, or Fort St. John, BC, offices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assisting in planning, organizing and implementing field programs, evaluating collected information; preparing professional reports, and ensuring quality assurance and quality control.
  • Field programs can include, but not limited to, vegetation monitoring and maintenance, Phase 1 ESA site visits, assisting in detailed site assessments, assisting in pre-reclamation assessments and assisting in Phase 2 and/or 3 ESAs.
  • Completing file reviews and reporting of Environmental Site Assessments, including but not limited to Phase 1 and 2 ESA reports, remediation reports, detailed site assessment reports and reclamation certificate application compilation.
  • Accurate field cost tracking of time, expenses and contractors.
  • File compilation, collection and organization of field data, interpretation of laboratory results.
  • Participation in technical and safety programs quality assurance and quality control.
  • Working with contractors and project managers to execute field programs.
  • Ability to make responsible decisions with the support and mentoring of senior staff.
  • Support the Reclamation and Construction Service Group and actively pursue opportunities to promote the development of the group; and,.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team setting.

What You Bring
  • A directly applicable Bachelor’s degree or Diploma with emphasis on reclamation or soil science.
  • One to two years of directly related experience in the execution and management of site assessments and reclamation, focusing on the oil and gas industry would be an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience with the 2010 Reclamation Criteria and Guidelines as well as the Tier 1 and Tier 2 Remediation Guidelines would also be advantageous.
  • Knowledge and experience with the BC Contaminated Sites Regulation and BC ER Certificate of Restoration program is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of the reclamation certificate application process and a strong understanding of agricultural, forestry and oilfield practices would be valuable.
  • Eligibility for membership in a relevant professional organization is required.
  • Possess a valid, non-GDL Class 5 Drivers license; and
  • The incumbent must be able to meet the requirements of site access as dictated by our clients, this may include pre-access drug testing and pre-access fitness testing.
Other Knowledge And Skills
  • Strong understanding of agriculture, forestry and oilfield industry; including associated practices and sciences.
  • Knowledge of reclamation certificate application process.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work either independently or as a part of a team interacting with other team members and contractors.
  • Experience driving, hauling a trailer and operating ATVs.
  • Able to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and be able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Good organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel; and
  • Excellent safety attitude.
Working Conditions
  • This individual should expect to spend approximately 80% of their work time at client sites; each individual trip lasting anywhere from 1 to 12 days. This individual may conduct assessments at industrial facilities and or greenfield sites in remote locations. In some cases, the field work may include carrying sampling equipment.
  • Office environment that requires sitting for extended periods of time, as well as field work.
