OpportunityMcElhanney is looking for a Land Surveyor‑In‑Training to join our growing Fort St. John team and help shape the future of the BC Peace Region. In this role you’ll work on meaningful projects that directly impact local communities and the energy sector while advancing your career in a supportive environment.
As a Land Surveyor in Training working toward your BC Land Surveyor Commission, you will assist in the delivery of construction, engineering, and legal surveys for oil and gas development, land development, and infrastructure projects. The role includes field and office duties, collaboration with experienced geomatics technologists, and gradual increase in responsibility as you gain experience.
The position requires relocation to the Fort St. John area. A generous relocation allowance is available, and McElhanney reimburses professional fees annually. The compensation package acknowledges additional effort and includes a bonus plan.
What You’ll Do- Lead and direct field and office technical personnel on projects, assigning tasks and ensuring complete work and deliverables.
- Research government registry and other records to support proposal, field survey, and legal survey plan preparation.
- Conduct field surveys, prepare accurate field notes, and manage the flow of information from field to office.
- Process field survey data, resolve measurements and boundaries, and prepare drawing deliverables.
- Ensure safety and quality assurance procedures are followed for field returns, drawings, legal plans, documents, and other deliverables.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Eligibility to register as a Land Surveyor in Training with the Association of BC Land Surveyors upon commencement of employment.
- Geomatics degree or diploma and/or a certificate of completion from the Canadian Board of Examiners for Professional Surveyors.
- Good communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.
- Proficiency in related computer applications (CADD and survey processing software).
- Physical ability to work in mountainous, forested terrain and remote areas.
- Willingness to travel out of town when called upon.
- A valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
The salary range for this position is $70,000–$115,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Other benefits include:
