Are you an experienced Geotechnical Engineer looking for a leadership opportunity? McElhanney is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our growing team in Fort St. John, BC, a vibrant community known for its outdoor recreation, close‑knit atmosphere, and affordable housing. This is a unique opportunity to step into a key leadership role within a young and growing team in a small‑office environment, backed by the support of a wider network of Geotechnical Engineers across British Columbia and Alberta.

In this role, you will help shape the future of our geotechnical services in the region, using your local experience and professional connections to build and grow our presence.

The successful candidate will be part of our Fort St. John Engineering Branch and reside in either British Columbia or Alberta. If not located in Fort St. John, travel to Fort St. John will be expected on a semi‑regular basis to meet with clients and our team.

What You’ll Do
  • Manage geotechnical investigations and studies, complete with interpretation and documentation of results, on a wide variety of transportation, municipal, land development and resource related projects.
  • Perform geotechnical analysis of stability, stress, deformation, and foundation response utilizing a suite of software platforms.
  • Prepare fee estimates and proposals for geotechnical assignments in the office.
  • Take ownership of and drive business development (internal and external) and client management.
  • Manage project schedules and budgets efficiently and effectively.
  • Provide oversight, guidance, direction and mentoring of junior technical staff at a level consistent with your experience.
  • Grow technical expertise with the mindset of supporting the existing and future McElhanney business and Geotechnical team.
What You’ll Bring
  • University degree in Geotechnical/Geological Engineering or Civil Engineering with a geotechnical emphasis.
  • Minimum of 8‑12 years progressive experience in relevant geotechnical field.
  • Experience in geotechnical engineering analysis, design, and consulting.
  • Seismic engineering and modeling is an asset.
  • Land base piling analysis and design is an asset.
  • Slope hazard assessments and land development projects is an asset.
  • Candidate must possess a Professional Engineer (PEng) registration in British Columbia. Registration as a PEng in Alberta is considered an asset.
  • Strong project management skills, including budgeting, financial oversight, and schedule management.
  • Strong business development capabilities, including identifying and securing new work, building client relationships, and mentoring junior staff.

The salary range for this position is $110,000 - $145,000 per annum.
