Job Summary

The Team:
As part of the BC Compliance and Enforcement Agency, the Natural Resource Officer Service delivers an integrated approach to natural resource compliance and enforcement across British Columbia. Officers and professional staff work in partnership with Indigenous communities, government agencies, industry, and the public to support responsible resource use and environmental protection. We are committed to professionalism, public service, and making informed decisions that make a direct impact on the stewardship and sustainable management of the province’s land, water, wildlife, and forests.

The Role:
The role of the Natural Resource Officer (NRO) involves conducting inspections, compliance testing, and investigations to ensure adherence to legislation, regulations, or licence conditions. This includes identifying non-compliance, imposing fines, or recommending further sanctions when necessary. The NRO also requires gathering evidence in preparation for quasi-judicial or criminal court proceedings. Your work will help to directly protect the land, water, forests, and cultural resources of British Columbia, ensuring the public's interest in the management of these diverse natural resources.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Applied degree or diploma in a program of natural resource law enforcement;
    OR
    ,
  • University degree or technical diploma in natural resource management;
    OR
    ,
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Must have and maintain a valid BC Class 5 Driver's licence, or equivalent, or be immediately eligible to attain one.
  • Must be willing and able to be designated as a Special Provincial Constable in accordance with Natural Resource Officer Service policies.
  • Willing and able to travel frequently.
  • Willing and able to work weekends and non-standard work shifts.
  • Willing and able to work outdoors in all types of weather and challenging terrain.
  • Willing and able to operate a variety of equipment, including, but not limited to, off-road vehicles and boats (do not have to have certification at this time, but be willing and able to get certification to operate).
  • Required to hold a Basic First Aid certificate, or equivalent (or willing and able to obtain immediately upon hire).

Dawson Creek, Prince George, Smithers, Terrace.
Depending on the successful candidate’s location, a bi-weekly isolation allowance may apply.
This position has full time on-site requirements.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
