Position Summary

Under the direction of the Team Lead or designate, the Social Worker works within the organization's framework and standards, and a rehabilitation/recovery harm reduction focused model. As a member of an interdisciplinary engagement and treatment team, the Social Worker provides assessment, harm reduction strategies, intervention, treatment, outreach and/or detoxification and/or recovery consultation and referral for clients experiencing substance use problems and their caregivers/families as client defines.

Travel may be a requirement of this position and transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of Northern Health.

Shift Rotation/Hours of work

Monday to Friday, Days, 08:30 to 16:30

Dawson Creek & District Hospital

Dawson Creek and District Hospital is a full service community hospital that provides service to Dawson Creek and surrounding communities. It has 31 Acute Care beds and 15 regional adult psychiatric beds. Dawson Creek is the Orthopaedic Trauma and Surgical centre for the Northeast Region of BC. Services include:

Construction is underway on the new Dawson Creek & District Hospital, anticipated to open in Spring 2027. Dawson Creek

Wide blue skies and the rolling foothills of the Northern Rockies surround Dawson Creek. The city is also known as the Mile Zero City, as it marks the start of the Alaska Highway, a 2,400 km long highway connecting Alaska and the Yukon to Western Canada and the United States. Dawson Creek has a population of approximately 12,500. It provides primary service to a population of approximately 20,000 and helps serve the larger population of the Peace River Region of 60,000.

Qualfications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from an accredited university.
  • Two (2) years recent related experience working with clients with mental health and/or substance use issues, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Current registration with the British Columbia College of Social Workers
  • Valid BC Driver's License.
Skills and Abilities
  • Assessment and Treatment:
    Demonstrated ability to complete initial and ongoing client assessments (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) through appropriate/prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions.
  • Teaching:
    Ability to teach clients and others both one-on-one and in groups.
