Job Overview
Amentum is seeking an Automation Technician4 to join our 1st‑shift operations & maintenance team in Clayton, NC. The schedule is Monday–Friday, 5:30a.m.–2:00p.m.; hours may vary based on business demand. The role requires knowledge of automation controls, HVAC, electrical, mechanical maintenance concepts, building automation, networking, and a willingness to learn technical skills in industrial, office, production, manufacturing, and testing environments.
Responsibilities- Assist technicians and the Client Automation Supervisor in responding to work orders, troubleshooting, and providing preventive maintenance on building and facility equipment and systems.
- Perform basic troubleshooting, maintenance, and minor repair of building automation systems, metering, network switches, production‑line automation, UPS systems, and automation controls.
- Operate aerial and platform lifts; read and understand schematics, diagrams, and specifications.
- Use a PC with Microsoft Office Suite and building‑automation software; perform preventive maintenance per the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Operate measuring, diagnostic, and testing instruments to support energy‑efficiency solutions.
- Provide service and feedback to customers on all work orders while ensuring compliance with codes, regulations, and industry standards.
- Follow safety guidelines, including lock‑out/tag‑out, job‑hazard analysis, and required PPE.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the manager or supervisor.
- High‑school diploma or equivalent.
- Three (≥3) years’ experience maintaining buildings, facilities, or equipment in a commercial or industrial environment related to automation systems, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to work in an aerial lift or scissor lift up to 30ft.
- Associate degree or trade‑school certification in Industrial Mechanical, Industrial Technology, or a related program.
- Basic PLC experience, including troubleshooting and making program changes with a wide array of building‑automation systems.
- Basic understanding of mechanical systems and attention to detail with step‑by‑step procedures.
Special Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs., climb ladders, bend, squat, kneel, stretch, reach, and walk extensively during a shift.
- Wear steel‑toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats, and other PPE as required.
- Cope with demands of the work environment while maintaining professional and friendly client interaction.
Hourly rate: $34.00/hour (actual compensation may vary based on experience, education, and other factors).
