Job Description

The Communications Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and delivering internal and external communications for Doig River First Nation.

Working under the direction of the Information Technology Manager, the Communications Coordinator will implement and maintain the Doig River First Nation Communications Strategy by supporting departments, coordinating communications, developing communication materials, maintaining communication platforms, and ensuring communications align with the Nation's approved branding, messaging and communication standards.

The Communications Coordinator will work closely with all departments to identify communication opportunities, develop content, and ensure organizational information is shared accurately, professionally and consistently.

Duties and Responsibilities Key Functions:
  • Implement and maintain the Doig River First Nation Communications Strategy.
  • Coordinate internal and external communications across the organization.
  • Work collaboratively with departments to identify communication needs and opportunities.
  • Develop written, graphic and digital communication materials.
  • Maintain the website, social media, newsletters and communication platforms.
  • Ensure communications follow approved branding, messaging and style standards.
  • Capture content through writing, photography and videography.
  • Support communications for projects, programs and initiatives.
  • Assist with media releases and public announcements.
  • Build positive working relationships throughout the organization.
  • Support emergency communications as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Monitor social media platforms for feedback, comments, and messages, responding and engaging when appropriate.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of communication campaigns.
  • Provide regular reports on communication performance and metrics.
  • Support live coverage and communication during community events, including hybrid community meetings.
  • Assist in the organization and promotion of public events and town halls.
  • Participate in creating content for newsletters and supporting distribution.
  • Collaborate with community members.
  • Other tasks as required.
Reporting Structure

The Communications Coordinator reports directly to the Information Technology Manager and works collaboratively with all departments to implement the Doig River First Nation Communications Strategy.

Qualifications
  • Diploma or post-secondary education in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Graphic Design or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in creating communication materials.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience managing websites and social media.
  • Adobe Creative Suite, Canva or similar software is an asset.
  • Photography and videography experience is an asset.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence.
Working Conditions
  • This position requires office and community based work. A flexible schedule is required, including occasional evenings and weekends to support community events and emergency communications.
  • Travel between DRFN facilities may be required.
  • Benefits/Pension:
    Eligible after probation.
  • Other:
    Cell phone and laptop provided.
  • A personal vehicle is required and reimbursement for travel will be provided at $0.70/ kilometer.
  • Hours:

    35 hrs/week, 7hrs/day Monday - Friday
