District Indigenous School Social Worker​/SEL Specialist

Position Description

School District 60 Indigenous Education Centre is looking for a compassionate, dedicated school social worker to assist in addressing the emotional and social well‑being of students. This position runs from September 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027, is eight hours per day five days a week (total 40 hours per week), and is 0.83 FTE. The annual salary will be between $60,861 and $76,076 depending on education and experience.

This is an exempt position and is not part of a union.

• Provide information to outside support services to assist students with economic, emotional, or physical issues.
• Assist at‑risk students or students with disabilities.
• Communicate with parents, teachers, and administrators to understand students’ challenges.
• Maintain case files and reports to track students’ progress and problems.
• Help students and families suffering from abuse, violence, hunger, or homelessness access resources such as shelters, food banks, and medical care.
• Consult with school administrators, teachers, support staff, school‑based team, and parents.
• Plan and facilitate in‑service training sessions for classroom teachers, youth care workers, educational assistants, and parents.
• Other job‑related duties as assigned.

• A bachelor’s or master’s degree in social work or a related field.
• Valid license to practice social work in BC (preferred).
• Experience in a setting where services related to a person’s social, emotional, and life adjustment were required.
• Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills to work at all three tiers of a responsive system.
• Experience facilitating liaison between school, home, and community agencies and making service referrals.
• Availability to school‑based staff at school locations.
• Flexibility and team orientation.
• Reliable vehicle and willingness to travel to rural and in‑town schools.
• Preference will be given to candidates who have the above skill set plus:
• Ability to participate in meetings outside the regular school day.
• Participating as an active member of the School‑Based Team and district support teams.
• Qualifications and experience in counselling children/youth.
• Knowledge and skills to develop and support district protocols such as safety plans, crisis prevention and intervention plans, emergency plans, risk assessments, and threat assessments.
• Experience with processes such as wraparound, restorative justice, circle talks, and SEL supports.
• Providing individual, group, and family counselling and intervention services during a crisis to connect students and families to community resources.
• Skills to develop and implement individual/group programs in areas such as social skills, self‑esteem, anger management, bullying, anxiety, and peer pressure.
• Collaborative and team‑oriented mindset.
