Position available in the Transportation Department of School District No. 60. The role reports to the Transportation Supervisor and coordinates and dispatches buses and drivers for regular and extra‑curricular trips, aiding day‑to‑day operations.
Hours and Compensation
Eight (8) hours per day, five (5) days per week; work year base: ten (10) months per year. Commencing salary: $31.24 per hour.
Duties
Coordinate and dispatch buses and drivers for regular and extra‑curricular trips.
Call out casual drivers as needed.
Act as a spare bus driver as required.
Prepare road maps of all bus runs and assist in preparing permanent student lists and school bus passes.
Track and report casual time, absences and overtime of employees within the Transportation Department.
Invoice schools and third parties for field trips.
Consult with highway maintenance contractors regarding road conditions when necessary.
Assist the Transportation Supervisor in day‑to‑day operations of the Transportation Department.
Oversee operations of the Transportation Department in the absence of the Supervisor.
Respond to and troubleshoot transportation‑related issues during and outside work hours when applicable.
Follow proper safety rules and standards by ensuring the worksite is safe and secure, and that equipment and vehicles are operated according to standards.
Ensure safe handling of hazardous materials (WHMIS) and safe use and operation of vehicles, equipment and hand tools.
Perform other job‑related duties as directed by the Transportation Supervisor.
Qualifications and Attributes
Grade 12 or equivalent.
Two years of experience driving a school bus preferred.
Minimum Class 2 driver’s license with air endorsement.
Clean driver abstract.
Knowledge of the Motor Vehicle Code and the National Safety Code.
Basic computer experience.
Knowledge of local road system.
Well organized and capable of accurate data entry.
Proficient computer skills, including knowledge of Excel.
Ability to work independently and set priorities.
WHMIS certificate; other safety training completed within the probationary period.
Other applicable safety training and/or certifications as required by the District.
Must pass a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Search before starting employment.
Ability to manage difficult conversations professionally.
Good interpersonal skills and teamwork capability.
Proof of graduation or highest level of education required prior to starting work.
