The Dispatcher is responsible for maintaining communication with customers and drivers in order to organize and keep track of all the daily operations. This individual is tasked with scheduling and dispatching crews, equipment for delivery of freight or other services rendered outside the place of business. They will interact with customers and respond to all inquiries in a courteous and efficient manner.
The Dispatcher will work in conjunction with the rest of the dispatch team locally and in other branches to improve efficiencies.
This position will report to the Terminal Manager in this location.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesThe Dispatcher’s duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Develop a culture of safety, professionalism and service excellence in all areas of operations
- Plan and manage employee work schedules to service commitment requirements
- Coordinate equipment in order to meet requirements for daily operations; work closely with fleet maintenance supervisor to address equipment deficiencies
- Be aware of all the employee activities in the region
- Develop a thorough understanding of enterprise system, satellite tracking, and other applicable applications
- Maintain policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Federal and Provincial transportation requirements
- Minimum five (5) years dispatching experience LTL‑T/L‑general freight industry
- Some Class 1 driving experience is an asset, but not required
- Knowledgeable about the Hours of Service regulations
- Strong interpersonal skills and leadership
- Knowledge of BC / AB geography
- Proficient reading, writing and speaking English
- Computer and presentation skills
- Highly organized and able to multi-task in a fast paced environment
- Salary will be based on skills and experience
