Platform Engineer

We are looking for a Platform Engineer to join our IT Platform Operations team. This team is responsible for administering our Microsoft Windows/Linux based environments. The Platform Engineer will be responsible for maintaining the corporate AD services as well as various Microsoft Windows based servers, including Horizon virtual desktop infrastructure. The Platform Engineer will also assist with the on premise hardware hosting corporate workloads running on VMware Cloud Foundation, VCF, so familiarity with vSphere/vSAN and experience managing ESXi hosts is a must.

Scripting and automating common tasks will be a common occurrence. Our virtual desktop environment leverages vSphere with NVIDIA vGPU, so expertise in desktop virtualization with NVIDIA vGPU is also a plus.

The Platform Engineer will work closely with other members of the Platform team and Platform Administrators, Endpoint Engineers, and IT Client Services team to implement and manage various internally hosted Virtual Machines and related resources. In addition, this person will collaborate with other teams within the organization, outside of IT, as well as other team members to identify, track, and report on opportunities for system optimization, methods to drive efficiency, identify and reduce error rates, and empirically document customer experience.

Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain Microsoft Windows Servers to include Active Directory Domain Controllers and provide recommendations/solutions to secure and optimize their configuration
• Develop automation workflows to enhance capabilities and enhance customer self-service
• Work with engineering users and application support to support the Horizon VDI environment and validate new use cases/features within the environment
• Deploy resources both on-prem and on AWS

Qualifications

• A minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience in an enterprise environment or an equivalent combination of education, training and relevant experience
• Demonstrated proficiency managing and troubleshooting Windows based environments
• Knowledgeable in virtual desktop environments, preferably with previous exposure to VMware/Omnissa Horizon in an production environment
• Proven ability to script/code with Power Shell and/or Bash
• Experienced in the management of vSphere/ESXI environments and a working knowledge of AWS

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with the VMware Aria Suite (formerly known as vRealize) and VMware Cloud Foundation
• Documentation experience using G-Suite apps or similar products
• Adaptable to changing circumstances and operational needs
• Experience coding in Python
• Experience in the evaluation and integration of new technologies into existing environments
