The district also offers a full calendar of culturally responsive events and equity‑minded programs such as Undocu Ally, Safe Zone, Vet Net, and Ability Ally.

Umoja Program

Umoja, a Kiswahili word meaning unity, is a community and critical resource dedicated to enhancing the cultural and educational experiences of African American and other students. We believe that when the voices and histories of students are deliberately and intentionally recognized, the opportunity for self‑efficacy emerges and a foundation is formed for academic success. The Umoja Program actively serves and promotes student success for all students through a curriculum and pedagogy responsive to the legacy of the African and African‑American Diasporas.

The UMOJA counselor will assist African American and other student populations in transitioning into and connecting with the campus community, enhancing cultural and educational experiences, and increasing persistence and retention rates to achieve their educational goals. The UMOJA counselor will facilitate a learning experience within the Umoja Community that provides each student the opportunity to add their voice and their story to the collective voices and stories of the African Diaspora.

Under the direction of the assigned manager, the UMOJA counselor will be responsible for teaching counseling courses, leading workshops, orientations, seminars, and will assist in developing and implementing necessary retention programs to meet program participant needs in support of the advancement of the vision, mission, and values of Coastline College.
