Overview

The Systems Specialist coordinates technical, administrative, and billing functions related to the Town’s water and sewer metering systems. The position ensures accurate meter data, billing, invoicing, reporting, and customer service while supporting the daily operations of the Department of Public Works (DPW).

Responsibilities
  • Prepare monthly (commercial), quarterly (residential), and periodic utility bills; generate accounts receivable and consumption reports for the Finance Department and Water Division.
  • Coordinate activities with meter readers; review readings for accuracy; schedule meter installations, inspections, and rechecks.
  • Enter, upload, and maintain all meter-related data within MUNIS Utility Billing; review and reconcile billing data using MUNIS and advanced Microsoft Excel.
  • Maintain forms, records, and monthly municipal building sewer flow documents.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot meter software, including Temetra, Itron, and related handheld devices/cables.
  • Create new accounts; calculate private sewer usage; maintain and update software for Itron and related technology.
  • Calculate and extract consumption for specific accounts; bill all miscellaneous charges; maintain cross-connection files; process abatements; collect and calculate fees for water/sewer permits.
  • Answer telephone calls and provide assistance to residents, businesses, developers, town department staff, and other applicable stakeholders; schedule appointments; respond to complaints or questions about invoices.
  • Perform similar or related work as required, directed or determined by circumstance.
  • Work under the general direction of the DPW Office Manager and in close coordination with the Water Superintendent and designees.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma required; advanced training or associate’s degree preferred.
  • One to three years of office or business experience, including one to three years of municipal experience, desired.
  • Proficiency with MUNIS and Microsoft Excel preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will also be considered.
Work Environment

Work performed in an office environment; majority of work is performed in a moderately noisy environment. Schedule includes one evening per week and frequent contact with the general public and other town employees.

Compensation

Anticipated hiring range from $30.97/hr (Step
1) to $38.86/hr (Step 12) in FY26.
