Position SummaryThe Project Engineer II (SPE) works closely with the Project Manager to support and manage the structural design process from project inception through to construction. In this role, the SPE is responsible for conducting structural analysis, preparing detailed plans and specifications, and reviewing contractor submittals, shop drawings, and RFIs to ensure compliance with the design intent. The SPE mentors junior engineers and BIM technicians, providing guidance on project work and technical aspects.
The SPE is also responsible for facilitating communication and coordination among clients, project architects, municipal agencies, and other members of the design team to ensure the structural design aligns with project objectives and complies with regulatory standards. In this capacity, the SPE actively engages in client calls, providing technical expertise and contributing to project discussions.
- Strong knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, materials, and procedures within the field of structural engineering and how to apply to projects.
- Designs, formulates plans, and supervises the production work of junior engineers.
- Writes clear summaries and memos of own work.
- Identifies project issues and presents solutions to junior teammates.
- Reviews the shop drawings to ensure alignment with the architectural and structural design plans. Confirms that the materials, dimensions, and methods of fabrication meet the project's technical requirements. Looks for any differences or errors between the shop drawings and the original design documents. Marks up corrections where necessary and approves the drawings once they meet the design and safety criteria.
- Understands and implements selected approach in all areas of project and directs junior engineers.
- Accurately implements Design Criteria.
- Independently performs analyses and design with little direction.
- Extensive knowledge on most codes and understands how codes impact design.
- Ensures that each completed project meets local codes, regulations, and quality standards.
- Thoroughly and efficiently organizes materials for review by supervisor prior to drafting or typing.
- Performs accurate back checking of project documentation.
- Designs structural elements of each project using computer software like Rhino, Revit, RISA, ETABS, SAP, and RAM.
- Ensures accuracy and precision with a high level of attention to detail.
- Developing critical thinking and analytical skills by learning to assess situations and break issues into manageable parts, evaluate possible solutions and make informed decisions.
- Understands of the importance of building the client and business relationship.
- Effectively communicates, both verbally and written, to ensure clear and effective interactions with all parties including clients, teammates and management.
