Special Education Teacher
Framingham Academy
Salary Range: $54,000.00 to $56,000.00/year depending on license + $5,000 stipend for completing extended school year.
Note: Now with a $5,000.00 Sign on Bonus (paid out over the first five months).
What you will do- Implement curricula according to MA State Curriculum Frameworks and Common Core Standards in a Chapter 766 approved school for students in grades 6-12.
- Provide challenging, motivating, and relevant learning experiences in a 220-day setting.
- Teach classes using various methods and materials to suit topic, IEP, and/or learning style.
- Employ differentiated instructional strategies to meet the needs of all students, including integrating technology into lesson planning.
- Provide a learning environment that is physically safe and intellectually open, aligned with special education best practices.
- Model the school’s academic and social expectations.
- Attend department meetings and relevant school and professional events/meetings as necessary.
- Maintain first aid, CPR and TCI certification through provided trainings.
- Maintain compliance with program and agency policies, standards, and protocols.
- Deliver structured lessons and activities for assigned class periods in accordance with students’ current IEPs.
- Provide individualized intervention and accommodations when necessary.
- Participate in assessment practices related to the Academy's IAP program.
- Assist in and/or develop IEPs as appropriate.
- Participate in teacher and staff meetings and establish open communication with parents/guardians.
- Complete all associated documentation regarding student progress and grading; maintain current license in moderate disabilities and curriculum area.
- Ability to work independently (self-direct on projects; propose project solutions in curriculum and lesson planning).
- Flexibility and creative thinking (adapt to changing work situations; respond quickly when lesson/activity does not go as planned).
- Ability to teach, mentor, and coach others (provide constructive feedback to employees on shift).
- Dependability and persistence (excellent follow-through on tasks).
- Bachelor’s Degree required;
Master’s Degree in education preferred. - At least 6+ months classroom experience (aide/co-teacher/etc.) preferred.
- License:
Curriculum certification held; license in Moderate Disabilities 5-12 preferred.
