Lead Distribution Engineer – Framingham, MA

Leidos is seeking a Lead Distribution Engineer in the Framingham, MA area who is passionate about electric utility design engineering. We’re looking for someone who is dedicated to ensuring that every project—no matter how simple or complex—is of exceptional quality. You’ll be working directly with clients to make sure that Leidos’ reputation for high-quality work is always maintained. In this role, you’ll gain expertise in NESC, Structural Pole Modeling, Electrical Power Calculations, GIS design training, Field Data Collection, and Client Design Standards.

This position is hybrid: 3 days/week in our office collaborating with internal teams and 2 days/week working remotely.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of electrical distribution work packages; perform engineering design and analysis; potentially work on programmatic/capital/reliability design (e.g., 3rd‑party attachment/Make Ready, overloaded transformers, reconductor, voltage conversion, DG, FLISR, underground, etc.).
  • Be responsible for QAQC tasks on your assigned team and perform quality reviews of your team’s designs prior to submittals.
  • Review engineering design packages with clients; review and organize existing project work.
  • Perform scope analysis of assigned work and maintain schedule adherence to advocate client priorities.
  • Interact directly with clients frequently as needed.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including post‑construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met.
  • Coordinate conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements; assist with work permit development, easements, and ROW applications.
  • Operate comfortably in both field and office settings; some customer‑site visits may be required to collect field data.

Requirements
  • 8+ years of relevant experience working electric distribution projects in a consulting environment or at an electric utility.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field (additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a specific bachelor’s degree).
  • Experience and proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
  • Experience with engineering design quality control.
  • Familiarity with Pole‑loading software (O‑Calc, Pole Foreman, etc.) and distribution pole analysis.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and ability to use a personal vehicle for customer‑related travel.
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work and work outdoors on occasion.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous QAQC experience.
  • Experience in estimating costs, developing BOMs, and calculating CIAC.
  • Demonstrated history of customer interaction.
  • Proficiency with STORMS software and GIS.
  • Prior leadership experience.

Pay and Benefits
