Driver, Bus Driver
Role purpose:
The Bus Operator‑Demand Response Driver provides passengers with safe, friendly transportation in vehicles designed for wheelchair lifts, seats and other special access. This position focuses on non‑emergency medical transportation and welcomes candidates with experience in customer service, home health‑care or the ability to provide high‑quality patient care.
Key responsibilities:
- Customer Service – ensure customers feel welcome; communicate effectively, especially during service disruptions; provide assistance as needed; accommodate passengers with information such as schedule and guidance.
- Safety – practice defensive driving, anticipate hazards, maintain on‑road safety while preserving on‑time performance; familiar with assigned routing and detours, including inclement weather; comply with ADA policies; operate all wheelchair lifts properly; report accidents to dispatch; assist passengers with mobility devices such as wheelchairs and walkers; assist with boarding and securing wheelchairs.
- Operations – collect fare media and notify dispatch; perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections and record defects on DVIR forms; follow exact deadhead routing and revenue service routes; depart start of each route on‑time; perform other duties as assigned.
- Work environment – drive vehicle for over 8 hours per day; sit for over 8 hours; lift, push, pull, bend, climb stairs; expose to extreme weather, fumes and uneven surfaces; assist mobile passengers.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 21 years of age; 5 years verifiable valid Driver’s license;
Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License; clean driving record; last 10 years DMV printout; stable work history; CPR, AED and First Aid certification (company provided). - Driving skills – obtain a CDL with Passenger and Airbrakes endorsement; adapt to ever‑changing environments; make adaptive decisions; communicate well; demonstrate positive attitude; be dependable and punctual.
Additional statements:
Employment contingent upon passing pre‑employment drug & alcohol screening and a favorable background check; must pass a physical examination.
