Basic FunctionThe instructional aide/job coach works with and under the supervision of the teacher. The aide assists in directing learning experiences of pupils in all activities sponsored by the school and follows guidelines for enforcing all board and school policies.
Performance Responsibilities- Work with the teacher to understand goals and philosophy.
- Assist with appropriate discipline techniques such as behavior modification.
- Assist in developing and preparing instructional materials.
- Assist the teacher with specific instructional tasks as assigned.
- Work individually with students as assigned.
- Perform other duties specific to classes as assigned by the supervising teacher.
- Obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver’s License to transport students on a bus.
- Supervise students in school-based vocational training while other students are in the classroom.
- Supervise students in classroom-based vocational training during community-based education training.
- Provide systematic instruction in community-based education training without direct supervision after teacher documentation of training.
- Work with students, family members, teachers, and others to discover career interests and job possibilities.
- Coordinate student evaluations to discover competencies, interests, and vocations, and understand impact of disabilities and support needs.
- Complete written vocational evaluation reports and assist with development of IPEs through DVR.
- Work with employers and students to develop personalized jobs.
- Provide consultations to business personnel related to individual student support needs.
- Provide follow‑up services to promote job advancement and ongoing success.
- Assist with data collection and maintain records for the local school system and the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation.
- Keep current and complete information in student notebook/file.
- Complete year‑end program data report.
- Work in concert with students, parents/guardians, teachers, vocational liaisons, special education coordinators, and DVR counselors.
- High School Diploma or GED and passing score on the para educator exam; or
- Associate Degree
- Experience in a related area
- Valid CDL and Kentucky Driver’s License
Salary and work year will be established by the board of education.
EvaluationPerformance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of board policy for classified personnel.
