Road & Rail Services is looking for hardworking, dependable individuals to join our traveling railroad team as Track Maintenance Workers
. This position is based out of Frankfort, Kentucky
, but employees will travel throughout the United States to complete railroad track construction, maintenance, and repair projects.

This is a nationwide traveling position with travel expected to be approximately 100%. Employees should be prepared to work at project locations in different states and remain away from home for extended periods based on project schedules.

You don't need previous railroad experience to get started. We're interested in candidates who have experience performing physical work and are willing to learn the railroad industry.

Backgrounds in construction, road work, landscaping, farming, utilities, heavy equipment, manufacturing, industrial labor, maintenance, or other outdoor trades can provide a strong foundation for this position.

What You'll Be Doing

Track Maintenance Workers perform physical, hands-on work to help build, repair, and maintain railroad infrastructure. Depending on the project, your responsibilities may include:

Remove old railroad ties and install replacement ties

Assist with installing, repairing, and aligning railroad track

Handle rail, ties, plates, spikes, fasteners, and other track materials

Use hand tools, power tools, and specialized track-maintenance equipment

Help construct and repair railroad crossings

Load, unload, stage, and move materials at project locations

Clear vegetation, brush, debris, and other obstructions from railroad property

Inspect tools and equipment before beginning work

Assist with general railroad construction and maintenance activities

Work around railroad tracks, construction equipment, and moving machinery

Follow established company, customer, and railroad operating procedures

Follow applicable Federal Railroad Administration requirements

Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Work closely with your crew to complete projects safely and efficiently

What You Need to Succeed

We're looking for candidates who understand the demands of traveling construction and outdoor railroad work.

Qualified candidates should have:

Valid state-issued driver's license

Ability and willingness to travel nationwide approximately 100% of the time

Ability to remain away from home for extended periods

Experience with physical labor, construction, equipment, maintenance, or a related field preferred

Ability to safely use basic hand and power tools

Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn new equipment

Ability to lift and handle materials throughout the workday

Ability to regularly bend, squat, kneel, climb, reach, stand, and walk

Ability to walk and work on ballast, uneven ground, and other challenging surfaces

Dependable attendance and punctuality

Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions

Willingness to work as part of a traveling crew

Travel & Outdoor Working Conditions

This is not a home-daily position.

Employees will travel to railroad project locations throughout the country and should expect frequent overnight stays and extended periods away from home.

Work is performed primarily outdoors. Depending on the project location and season, you may work in heat, cold, rain, wind, snow, humidity, and other changing weather conditions
