Job Description: Pay Range: $64hr - $67hr
- The Product Development Engineer works under general direction to guide the design and development of advanced biomedical solutions supporting existing and new medical device products.
- This role contributes to key business objectives through technical leadership, innovative problem solving, and execution of complex product development initiatives.
- Guide the design and development of advanced biomedical solutions for existing and new medical device products.
- Lead or support major development programs and, at times, function in a project leadership role.
- Serve as the primary technical contact on contracts and projects.
- Interact with senior external stakeholders on technical matters requiring cross-organizational coordination.
- Independently determine and develop solution approaches to complex engineering challenges.
- Design and develop in vivo and in vitro models to evaluate product features and improvements.
- Apply creative, logical, and risk-based approaches to resolve technical challenges and trade-offs within business constraints.
- Develop technical solutions using sound engineering principles, design of experiments, and experimental, computational, and analytical methods.
- Develop robust test methods, design test fixtures, and execute measurement system analysis.
- Write, implement, and lead hands‑on benchtop studies, tolerance stack‑up analyses, design verification and validation activities.
- Support vendor interactions, material specifications, component specifications, troubleshooting, and root‑cause analysis.
- Perform statistical data analysis, generate reports, and present recommendations to peers and business leadership.
- Support and, at times, lead material, design, and process changes through established design control processes with well‑documented research and analysis.
- Demonstrate accountability for successful and timely completion of assigned tasks and projects.
- Contribute to the development of new product development capabilities, methodologies, and technical expertise.
- Stay informed of emerging trends in computational and visualization technologies and pursue ongoing skill development.
- Collect, record, interpret, analyze, and present data to peers and leadership.
- Provide advanced engineering and product evaluation support to build business cases for new opportunities.
- Contribute to R&D strategy development through evaluation of new technologies, business opportunities, and potential acquisitions.
- Ensure compliance with internal quality policies, procedures, and quality assurance principles.
- Strong foundation in scientific and engineering fundamentals based on first‑principles understanding.
- Strong technical judgment, critical thinking, and systematic problem‑solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead product development projects.
- Experience guiding teams or individuals in solving complex technical problems.
- Proficiency in solid CAD modeling tools such as Creo, Solid Works, or equivalent.
- Experience with design for manufacturability, including injection‑molded components and assemblies.
- Knowledge of disciplined phase‑gate product development processes.
- Proficiency with statistical methods including design of experiments and data analysis tools.
- Understanding of measurement systems analysis.
- Knowledge of Six Sigma methodologies including DMAIC and Design for Six Sigma.
- Strong project management, prioritization, and multitasking skills.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and effectively across teams.
- Experience with R&D functional planning, requirement generation, and cross‑functional design reviews across all product development phases.
- Experience supporting tightly controlled, high‑volume manufacturing environments.
- Experience directing associates or leading small cross‑functional teams is a plus.
- Strong creative, analytical, and problem‑solving abilities.
- Proficiency with fixture design, basic machining considerations, and hands‑on testing.
- Experience with finite element analysis and/or computational fluid dynamics tools is a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
