Job Description Summary
The R&D Senior Scientist reports directly to the Senior R&D Manager and is responsible for delivering technical excellence in the area of applied material sciences within the Specimen Management R&D organization. The R&D Senior Scientist will drive innovation activities such as technology scouting, technical feasibility studies, strengthening IP position and contributing to the new product development pipeline.
Primary Duties, Responsibilities & Authorities
- Represents the R&D function in large technology and product development programs as an extended team member, and supports less complex projects as a core team member.
- Design and execute experiments that explore technical feasibility and further development, verification, and evidence generation across all assigned programs and projects.
- Document and build technical knowledge, propose solution concepts and principles when applicable.
- Drive key product development work streams including requirements management, design verification, and design transfer to manufacturing.
- Work cross‑functionally with R&D‑Engineering, Marketing, Medical Affairs, Manufacturing, Quality and Regulatory Affairs.
- Participate in intellectual property growth; submit patent applications and invention disclosure records.
- Work independently to determine approaches to solutions.
- Adhere to Good Laboratory Practices, maintain laboratory equipment and facilities.
- Mentor and train junior team members and foster a collaborative environment.
- Travel as required to conferences, manufacturing sites, customer visits.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Materials Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Biochemistry, or related field.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Sound knowledge of material science and engineering principles.
- Experience in medical device industry.
- Familiar with design control process and medical device regulations.
- Knowledge of method validation and Six Sigma methodology.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Good technical judgment and ability to convince others.
- Ability to work in a cross‑functional environment.
- Self‑motivated with a strong sense of urgency and willingness to take hands‑on work.
- Proficiency in core competency areas such as FTIR, DSC, HPLC, etc.
- Experience handling clinical specimens; blood borne pathogen safety training.
- Commitment to on‑site collaboration (minimum 4 days per week).
