JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performs routine and complex assigned tasks in one section of the laboratory, including tasks of moderate to high complexity.
• Performs routine and complex assigned tasks in additional sections of the laboratory, including tasks of moderate to high complexity.
• Provides appropriate services to meet the needs of the department’s customers as requested including but not limited to the provision of accurate and timely information.
• Maintains equipment, including scheduled, preventative and diagnostic maintenance as outlined in laboratory procedure and manufacturer user manuals.
• Participates in Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance activities as determined by the hospital including hospital operations improvement.
• Independently performs quality control procedures, documents results, and investigates and resolves abnormal results, with appropriate supervisory notification of activity.
• Evaluates current practice and make appropriate suggestions to improve productivity and enhance expense reduction to the Section Head; assists in the evaluation of new equipment; monitors the purchasing of laboratory supplies and inventory control.
• Provides technical guidance for customers as it relates to laboratory procedures and operations.
• Attends meetings inside and outside of the hospital as designated. Participates in professional activities and continuing education to maintain professional expertise.
• Clearly communicates and continuously supports the Mission and Values of Johnson Memorial Hospital.
• Conducts all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and hospital policies and procedures including Blood and Body Substance Precautions.
• Performs additional duties as required which relate to the function of the hospital.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

MT: Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or in one of the chemical, physical or biological sciences from an accredited college or university is required. In addition, completion of a training program in an approved school of medical technology or equivalent applicable experience is highly preferred. Certification as a Medical Technologist (or equivalent) preferred.

MLT: Associate’s degree as a Medical Laboratory Technician required. One year of experience preferred. Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (or equivalent) required.

Current schedule is night shift, Sunday - Wednesday, 6p-430a. These hours can be adjusted slightly if needed. 80 hours per bi-weekly pay period.
