CNC Precision Machining Specialist (Lathes & Mills)
Join us at Overton Industries as a CNC Precision Machining Specialist (Lathes & Mills). This role involves operating CNC lathes, mills, and occasional grinders, while maintaining high accuracy and quality in tooling and component production for automotive, aerospace, and industrial markets.
Base Pay Range$23.00/hr - $25.00/hr
Location: Franklin, IN |
Job Type: Full time
We build complex, high-accuracy tooling and components for customers across automotive, aerospace, and general industrial markets. Our teams combine advanced manufacturing technology with deep craft to deliver consistent, top-tier quality.
A Day in the LifeWhen you arrive on the shop floor, you review the schedule and open travelers, load fixtures, confirm tools, and validate offsets on CNC lathes, mills, and occasional grinders. With prints and CAD models at your station, you cut the first piece, verify critical dimensions with micrometers, calipers, and CMM support as needed, then dial in the process for repeatability. Throughout the shift, you keep machines running, document production data, troubleshoot issues, and partner with engineering to trim cycle time while protecting quality.
Before you wrap up, you perform light preventive maintenance, leave your area organized, and note any mechanical concerns for follow-up.
- Set up, operate, and monitor CNC milling and turning centers (and select manual machines) to hold tight tolerances to spec.
- Read and apply blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD details to machine parts correctly the first time.
- Choose tooling, fixtures, and materials; make all necessary adjustments to establish stable, efficient setups.
- Inspect in-process and finished parts using precision metrology (micrometers, calipers, CMM) to meet quality standards.
- Carry out routine machine care; promptly report issues requiring repair.
- Collaborate with engineering/production to refine programs and processes, reduce cycle times, and boost throughput.
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, orderly work cell.
- Accurately log quantities, material usage, and any deviations from print.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certificate or associate degree in machining/manufacturing preferred.
- Experience: 2–3+ years in a machining role within manufacturing; exposure to CNC programming and G‑code is a plus.
- Technical strengths: Confident with CNC and manual equipment; blueprint literacy; quality tools (micrometers, calipers, CMM); problem‑solving mindset; detail orientation; effective both independently and in a team.
- Physical: Comfortable standing for long periods, lifting up to 50 lbs, and performing repetitive motions.
- Nice to have: Forklift certification or related credentials.
- Modern manufacturing setting with common exposure to production equipment, noise, and metalworking fluids.
- Standard shifts with potential overtime or alternate shifts based on demand.
- Competitive pay:
Compensation aligned with your background and impact. - Health coverage:
