• Obtains and records initial assessment and establishes priorities according to patient age, symptoms, and psychosocial needs.
• Reassesses patients systematically to identify progress and trends that require intervention, implements and documents timely interventions appropriate to patient needs, and responds to emergencies.
• Makes comprehensive nursing decisions based on the interpretation of facts and evaluation of patient outcome.
• Participates in patient/significant other health education and discharge planning.
• Coordinates team assignments and makes adjustments based upon patient and unit needs; follows up on delegated patient care tasks for quality and completeness.
• Utilizes appropriate chain of command for resolution of difficult issues.
• Participates in orientation of new staff.
• Maintains a neat, organized, and safe environment for patients and staff.
• Participates in the unit's continuous quality improvement plan to improve organizational performance.
• Functions as a resource to visitors, physicians, and staff; greets them promptly and courteously.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• Clearly communicates and continuously supports the Mission and Values of Johnson Memorial Health.
• Conducts all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and Johnson Memorial Health policies and procedures including Blood and Body Substance Precautions.

• Critical Care Unit: ACLS or ALS certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire. Must successfully complete dysrhythmia recognition test at initial department orientation.
• Emergency Department: Must complete ACLS or ALS certification during orientation. Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course or PALS must be completed within one year of hire.
• Maternity Center: ACLS or ALS certification required. NPR certification required within 3 months of hire.

• Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Indiana required.
• Minimum of BSN required.
• BLS or CPR for Healthcare Providers Certification required.
• PALS Certification required for staff who are assigned to care for pediatric patients.
