Maintenance Technician
MATALCO – We are North America’s largest independent aluminum billet and slab provider, using recycled aluminum and state-of-the-art technology. We are currently seeking candidates to fill a night shift opening at our Franklin, KY plant for our multi-craft maintenance department, a team that’s key to keeping us operational!
You will:
- Work safely and efficiently, following procedures, safety protocols, and training.
- Install, inspect, adjust, and repair equipment.
- Respond to production needs and equipment failures using your expertise.
- Recommend process and procedure improvements.
- Perform preventative and predictive maintenance to ensure equipment longevity.
- Monitor operations through PM checks to prevent production loss.
- Respond promptly to breakdowns and safety concerns, minimizing downtime.
- Report deviations and non-conforming equipment or operations for correction.
- Maintain a spare parts inventory to ensure critical components are readily available.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in automation, controls, engineering, or equivalent experience.
- At least 2 years of experience in a fast-paced manufacturing, foundry, or aluminum/hot metal maintenance environment.
- Strong understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, combustion, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Good knowledge of preventative maintenance practices.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong commitment to safety compliance.
- Experience maintaining cranes and conducting inspections.
- Proficiency in math, reading, and blueprint interpretation.
- Understanding of PLCs and PM software.
- Critical thinking skills for troubleshooting equipment and systems.
- Physical endurance and multitasking ability.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Basic PC skills and ability to learn new software.
- Ability to rig and move heavy components safely.
- Hands-on experience with preventative maintenance systems.
- Team player with minimal supervision capabilities.
- Effective communication with operators, leaders, and vendors.
- OSHA/KYOSH certification is a plus.
Work Schedule
- Our 24/7 operation requires 12-hour rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays. The current opening is for a 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. shift.
Work Environment
- Located at our Franklin, KY facility.
- Monitoring production processes visually and via HMI and PLC panels.
- Regular inspection of scrap and process conditions.
- Frequent data entry and process monitoring.
- Occasional hot metal work, confined space entry, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Use of forklifts and mobile equipment when necessary.
- Indoor work with outdoor exposure, variable temperatures, loud noises, fumes, and confined spaces.
