Essential Duties and Responsibilities
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Inspect, maintain, and repair sanitary sewer lines, manholes, and sewer appurtenances.
- Operate and maintain wastewater pump stations and related equipment.
- Respond to and resolve sewer backups, blockages, and overflow in a timely manner.
- Operate light to heavy equipment including trucks, excavators, backhoes, jetting and vacuum trucks, and other related machinery.
- Perform preventative maintenance on wastewater collection infrastructure.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, equipment used, and materials required.
- Follow proper safety procedures including confined space entry, traffic control and use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Assist with emergency response situations, including after-hours and on-call duties.
- Provide courteous and professional customer service when interacting with the public.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of wastewater collections systems, sewer line maintenance, and pump station operations preferred.
- Ability to operate light to heavy equipment safely and effectively preferred.
- Knowledge of workplace safety practices and ability to follow standard operating procedures.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in all weather conditions.
- Ability to read and interpret maps, diagrams, and work orders.
REQUIRED
Must be willing and available for on-call duty. On-call duty is assigned on a rotating schedule with other department employees. It is a one-week responsibility for 24 hours a day.
WORK HOURS
Must be willing and able to work Monday to Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm or as needed as well as non-traditional schedules including nights, weekends and holidays as may be required in emergency situations.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or its equivalent.
- Work to achieve appropriate certification license as issued by the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
- Valid driver’s license and CDL license and/or ability to obtain a CDL license.
PHYSICAL AND WORK REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, walk and stand; talk or hear; use hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms. The ability to see and respond to dangerous situations. The ability to operate heavy equipment that produces vibrations, perform repetitive movements of hands or wrist;
crouch crawl; have the ability to move safely over uneven terrain. Must be able to wear personal protective gear correctly during the entire shift. The ability to work in inclement weather for extended periods of time.
REPORTS TO
The Wastewater Collections Operator reports to the Wastewater Collections Field Leader and Wastewater Superintendent for work assignments and daily responsibilities.
