Under the direction of the Aquatics Director (or Aquatics Coordinator) and in accordance with the Christian mission and purpose of the Great Miami Valley YMCA Association, the Swim Instructor is responsible for providing safe and planned instructional swim lessons for all facility members and program participants while ensuring a safe environment for all participants.

• Reports 10 minutes prior to the start of scheduled shifts, to prepare materials/equipment for class.
• Maintains all instructional equipment, including proper usage and storage of class materials.
• Conduct classes in accordance with the GMVY Swim Lesson v6 Program.
• Understand and use lesson plans to accommodate each level of swim lessons.
• Recognizes individual differences, and adjusts teaching strategies as needed for the success of all students in the swim lesson program.
• Maximize swimmer participation in every class period and constructively utilize allotted class time.
• Provide a positive learning experience for all swimmers through the use of sound instructional strategies and techniques.
• Ability to teach various levels of lessons at any time if needed.
• Know and understand emergency procedures; be prepared to act on them if necessary.
• Communicate student progress to swimmers and/or families throughout each session of lessons.
• Maintains current certifications at all times.
• Attends all required trainings, in-service meetings, and branch meetings as required.
• Provides excellent member experiences to all participants and members through classes and events.
• Supports all branch and association-wide membership retention and engagement initiatives.
• Actively supports membership sales initiatives.
• Supports and promotes annual campaigns efforts within branch and across association.
• Organizes special events for participants and families.
• Covers all schedules shifts and/or finds substitute coverage for 100% of scheduled shifts.
