Job Title:
Heavy Civil Construction Project Manager
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Heavy Civil Construction Project Manager to oversee and manage commercial, Federal, State, and Local municipality projects. The ideal candidate will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing construction projects from inception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities Project Planning & Execution- Develop comprehensive project plans, schedules, and budgets.
- Coordinate with engineers, subcontractors, and field crews to ensure efficient execution.
- Manage procurement of materials, equipment, and services.
- Coordinate scheduling of installation of water, sewer, storm drain, and other utility systems.
- Ensure compliance with local codes, environmental regulations, and safety standards.
- Coordinate utility tie-ins and inspections with municipalities and utility providers.
- Coordinate scheduling grading operations including site preparation, excavation, compaction, roadway, concrete, or other ground actions as required by the scope of the project.
- Monitor quality control and ensure adherence to DOT and project specifications.
- Lead and mentor assistant project managers, superintendents, and field staff.
- Conduct regular site meetings and progress reviews.
- Resolve conflicts and ensure team alignment with project goals.
- Track project costs and manage change orders.
- Review and approve invoices, pay applications, and subcontractor payments.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and mitigate financial risks.
- Enforce company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
- Assist Safety Team with site safety audits and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Maintain documentation for inspections, permits, and compliance reports.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, consultants, and regulatory agencies.
- Provide regular updates on project status, milestones, and issues.
- Ensure client satisfaction and manage expectations throughout the project lifecycle.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in heavy civil construction project management. Field experience in the industry will also be considered.
- Proven track record managing commercial utility, roadwork, and grading projects.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and regulations.
- Proficiency in project management software (e.g., HCSS, Procore, MS Project).
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites as needed.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. regularly.
- Frequently standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing.
- Exposure to loud noise, dust, debris, and varying weather conditions.
- Must be able to wear and work in personal protective equipment (PPE) for extended periods.
- Required extended time seated operating computers with extended screen time.
- Job locations can vary daily, weekly, or monthly based on current workload.
- Job locations are generally located within a 50-mile radius of downtown Nashville.
- Candidates must have reliable transportation to get to the job sites.
