The Senior Electrical Engineer will be a key contributor to the design, development, and integration of complex electromechanical medical devices. You will lead efforts in electrical system design, circuit development, controls, embedded electronics, and safety compliance from concept through design transfer and manufacturing.
This role requires deep technical expertise in medical‑grade power systems, analog and digital circuit design, embedded control systems, and system integration within a regulated environment.
Job Requirements- BS in Electrical Engineering or related field (MS preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in electrical or systems engineering for medical devices or other safety‑critical equipment.
- Expertise in analog and digital circuit design, PCB layout, and component selection.
- Strong understanding of power management, motor control, and sensor integration.
- Experience with embedded systems and languages (C/C++, Python, etc.), microcontrollers, or FPGA‑based design a plus.
- Familiarity with optical or photonic subsystems (LED/laser drivers, detectors) preferred.
- Hands‑on experience with system debugging, signal analysis, and EMI/EMC mitigation.
- Proficiency in electrical CAD tools (e.g., Altium Designer, OrCAD, Mentor Graphics).
- Working knowledge of FDA Design Controls and medical device standards (IEC 60601, ISO 13485).
- Understanding of embedded AI/ML, signal processing, or predictive diagnostics a plus.
- Proven ability to bring a product from concept through commercialization.
- Excellent documentation, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast‑paced R&D environment.
- Lead the design and development of electrical systems and subsystems for therapeutic medical devices, including power distribution, sensing, actuation, and control architectures.
- Architect and implement embedded control and signal‑processing systems for pumps, sensors, valves, and photonic (UV/visible) light sources.
- Develop and validate analog and digital circuits, including power electronics, motor drivers, signal conditioning, and safety interlocks.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with mechanical, software, systems, and manufacturing engineers to ensure seamless integration and performance of complex systems.
- Support firmware and embedded software development for real‑time device control and data acquisitions (C/C++, Python, RTOS, embedded Linux).
- Support prototype development, testing, and verification of system electrical performance under clinical and laboratory conditions.
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety and medical device standards (IEC 60601, ISO 13485, ISO 14971, etc.).
- Lead electrical root‑cause analysis, failure‑mode assessments (FMEA), and design reviews across development stages.
- Generate and maintain design documentation, schematics, test reports, and risk analyses in compliance with the Therakos Quality Management System.
- Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and support knowledge transfer within the team.
- Drive innovation through evaluation of new technologies, suppliers, and design strategies for next‑generation cell and gene‑therapy systems.
