Fractional Controller Responsibilities
- Oversee day‑to‑day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll coordination
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close processes on both cash and accrual bases, as required
- Prepare and review financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses
- Lead budgeting and forecasting processes, including cash flow planning and project‑level forecasting
- Oversee job costing and project accounting, ensuring accurate tracking of costs, revenue, margins, and work‑in‑progress
- Collaborate with project managers and operations teams to monitor project performance and financial outcomes
- Ensure proper revenue recognition in accordance with applicable accounting standards and contract terms
- Establish, maintain, and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Support system usage and optimisation for project accounting and financial reporting tools (experience with Deltek Ajera or similar systems preferred)
- Manage compliance requirements, including tax filings, audits, and coordination with external accountants
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to support operational and strategic decisions
- Assist with process improvements, system implementations, and scalability initiatives as the business grows
- Serve as a trusted financial advisor to leadership on an as‑needed basis
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent experience preferred
- Proven experience in a controller or senior accounting role, ideally within construction, engineering, or project‑based environments
- Strong understanding of job costing, project accounting, and construction financial practices
- Experience managing closes on both cash and accrual bases
- Hands‑on experience with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
- Familiarity with Deltek Ajera or comparable project management and accounting software preferred, but not required
- Strong analytical, organisational, and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to work independently, prioritise effectively, and adapt to changing business needs
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with both financial and operational stakeholders
