Responsibilities
  • Perform patient workups, obtain medical histories, and conduct specialized diagnostic testing
  • Travel to satellite locations
  • Prepare examination and treatment rooms
  • Maintain a clean, stocked working environment and ensure equipment and EOC guidelines are followed
  • Perform general clinic support functions
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform well in a fast‑paced, high‑volume practice
  • Engage in continuous learning to advance and assist physicians, including scribe duties

Education, Training, and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • One year of experience as an Ophthalmic Check‑In Technician in a retina clinic preferred
  • Certification eligible, with certification obtained within one year of employment
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with patients, physicians, management, and employees
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the ability to learn and adapt quickly to new software
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting paper and electronic medical chart contents (ERM)
  • Excellent organizational skills, multitasking, and logical thinking
  • Proactive initiative and ability to perform in a fast‑paced, high‑volume practice
  • Basic understanding of eye anatomy, medical terminology, ocular pathology, and eye diseases
Confidentiality

Maintains strict confidentiality regarding protected health information (PHI) and understands and adheres to Tennessee Retina’s HIPAA privacy and security policies and procedures.

Typical Physical and Working Demands

The position requires prolonged walking, sitting, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Good eye‑hand coordination and manual dexterity are sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment. Employees must have a standard range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports. Must be able to lift and carry up to 15 pounds.
