The Salty Packaging Machine Operator, under general supervision, is responsible for the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of packaging machinery while maintaining the continuous flow of product to the packaging lines. Responsibilities include making minor adjustments to machinery to achieve correct product specifications, troubleshooting, maintenance, and record‑keeping.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain shift documentation (Metal Detector and Batch Order Verifications).
  • Read production schedule and plan accordingly.
  • Interpret schedules in Micro Strategy.
  • Print labels on various printers, choose and clean programs.
  • Perform nitrogen testing and scale calibration.
  • Monitor and maintain operation of packaging machinery, ensuring correct codes, dates, and prices.
  • Ensure adequate supply of roll stock and that all packaging materials are available for each machine.
  • Set up and write new programs for bag makers; edit machine micro‑logic as required.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and minor scale repairs and adjustments.
  • Operate packaging equipment (case sealers, robot cells, etc.) and perform changeovers, troubleshooting, sanitation cleanup, and shutdown.
  • Plan ahead for machine changeovers and efficiently switch between product items.
  • Monitor and adjust each machine to ensure proper cut‑off film and bag seals.
  • Maintain machine speeds at standard rates.
  • Monitor product appearance and adhere to weight control program; conduct bag weight checks every 20 minutes.
  • Operate bagger, scales, conveyor, seal checker, and other auxiliary equipment as needed.
  • Identify and resolve packaged product quality issues.
  • Account for product run‑off and rework acceptable product.
  • Keep machines and work areas clean; perform wipes and blow‑downs as required.
  • Report maintenance problems to technician or supervisor promptly.
  • Adhere to safety and hygiene guidelines for housekeeping and personal protection.
  • Store supplies in designated areas and keep aisles/exits clear.
  • Follow safe lifting and carrying instructions; report equipment issues and injuries.
  • Provide leadership and direction to packers when appropriate.
  • Be eligible for back‑up Packaging Coordinator or other technical/skilled positions.
  • Monitor and replenish seasoning on overhead if applicable.
  • Be prepared for mandatory overtime; perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    High School Diploma or GED (preferred but not required).
  • Experience:

    1 year of production experience in a manufacturing environment (preferred but not required).
