Residential Plan Examiner

Responsibilities

Examines residential construction documents of One-, Two-, and Three‑Family Dwellings prior to construction for the purposes of ensuring compliance with laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations relating to construction, alteration, movement, enlargement, replacement, repair, equipment, use and occupancy, location, maintenance, removal and demolition. Performs related duties as required that pertain to enforcement of the Cleveland Housing Code, the Cleveland Zoning Code and the Ohio Residential Code.

Note:

this classification utilizes the working titles of Residential Plan Examiner, Interim Residential Plan Examiner, and Residential Plan Examiner Trainee, depending on the certification held.

• A High School Diploma or GED.
• A valid State of Ohio Driver's License.
• Must meet one of the following requirements:
  Ohio registration as an architect or professional engineer;
  Five years of experience in building design and construction for residential or non‑residential buildings or structures related by the rules of the board or experience specified in section 103.3.3(2); or Successful completion of a trainee program pursuant to section 103.3.9.

• OBBS Residential Plan Examiner Trainee certification.
• OBBS Residential Plan Examiner Interim certification.
• OBBS Residential Plan Examiner certification.
• OBBS Building Inspector full certification.
