Geotechnical Field Technician

. The position is full‑time and involves geotechnical field work, office duties and occasional construction materials testing.

• Layout of borings and test pits by conventional surveying and GPS, and observation and classification of test pits and soils
• Perform hand auger borings, DCP testing, soil logging and other geotechnical field work
• Office responsibilities: classification of samples from drilling operations and reduction of GPS and other geotechnical data for utilization and production
• Department administrative duties and, when needed, work in the construction materials testing department
• Field observation, testing, sampling and inspection of soil, aggregates, concrete, grout, masonry, asphalt and structural steel placement on active construction sites (not all disciplines encountered on every project)
• Perform routine field and/or laboratory tests under the direction of staff professionals/project managers and assist in more complex tasks as required
• Involve with calculations and data reduction of test results and drafting as needed
• Daily communication with site contractors, other technicians and project managers
• Receive ECS training on methodology for observations, inspections and testing of building/construction projects; document findings in accordance with accepted engineering practice
• Progressive training and certification opportunities through internal and external programs (ACI, ASNT, AWS, ICC, NICET, NRCA, IIBEC, State DOTs, WACEL and others)
• Work environment includes exposure to wet/humid conditions, extreme cold/heat, dusty/noisy work environments, and potentially high, precarious places; some weekend, overtime and overnight travel may be required
• Physical requirements:
  
  long-term standing, repetitive motions, manual handling of 40–70 lbs multiple times a day, occasional lifting up to 85 lbs to waist height, climbing, balancing, crouching, stooping, kneeling, and driving hundreds of miles per day. Reasonable accommodations may be made.

• High school diploma or GED; BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET‑accredited university preferred
• 0–2 years of experience
• Ability to carry 40–70 lbs multiple times a day and occasionally lift 85 lbs to waist height

The expected pay range for this role and location is $18‑$25/hour. The final agreed‑upon compensation will be determined based on specific location and individual qualifications.
