This position will be responsible for teaching non-credit courses for the Institute for Learning in Retirement Program (ILR) within the Continuing Education and Workforce Development (CEWD) Department. ILR Adjunct Faculty shall teach proposed and/or assigned courses approved by the program manager and director. Instructors generally teach 1 to 2 courses a term based upon their area of expertise. Courses vary in length and do not follow traditional course length semesters.
Courses taught are generally proposed by the instructor as this program has no set curriculum. Area of expertise should be clearly outlined in their application, cover letter, or resume. Course topics taught in this program include:
- Computer and Technology
- Health and Fitness
- History, Cultures, and Current Issues
- Hobbies and Languages
- Learning on Location trips
- Life Planning and Finances
- Literature, Theater, and Writing
- Philosophy, Religion, and Exploration
- Science and Nature
- The Arts and Music
Minimum Qualifications
- Appropriate education level (will vary based on the course teaching)
- Previous experience teaching
- Basic computer skills necessary for utilizing technology in the classroom
- Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, or PhD
- Previous experience teaching at a post‑secondary level
- Experience teaching to students who are aged 55+
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to use varying styles and approaches that reflect an understanding and acceptance of the role of culture in a diverse, multicultural workplace
