Adjunct, American Heart Association CPR – Inside Higher Ed

Position Summary
CPR adjunct instructors teach CPR Basic Life Support, Heartsaver CPR/AED/First Aid, and other CPR and First Aid courses following the American Heart Association curriculum. Instructors may teach classes on campus or at clients’ facilities, independently or with a co‑instructor, based on class size.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Facilitate video presentations, instructor lectures, and skills demonstrations.
  • Test students and conduct remediation when needed.
  • Complete post‑course rosters and paperwork accurately.
  • Submit paperwork to the department within the specified timeline.
  • Abide by all American Heart Association instruction and program protocol.
  • Participate in CPR BLS instructor training led by FCC staff (if not currently instructor certified).
  • Participate in professional development and training activities to maintain currency in discipline, knowledge, and instructional methods.
  • Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
Required

Minimum Qualifications
  • Current American Heart Association CPR BLS provider certification.
  • Excellent public speaking skills and comfort speaking in front of a class of adults.
  • Responsible, punctual, and able to teach/organize independently.
  • Ability to attend scheduled instructor training and professional development sessions.
  • Willingness to purchase own instructor training materials prior to training.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous teaching experience (classroom or professional/corporate training).
  • Current American Heart Association BLS Instructor certification.
  • A‑A degree or higher, preferably in a healthcare or allied health field.
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community‑college students.
