The State Highway Administration's (SHA) District 7 is currently recruiting for a Design
Project Manager (Transportation Engineer II) in Frederick County. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum and selective qualifications listed below. This is a position specific recruitment. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy or function only. You will need to reapply for any future recruitment conducted for this job classification.
The main purpose of this position is to perform the duties of a Design Project Manager on the District 7 Engineering Systems Team. This position will plan, coordinate and direct the work of outside consultant engineering firms' staff, utilizing multiple open-end consultant contracts that can range from $1,000,000 to $3,000,000 each. This position provides direction and guidance to the consultant design engineers while they prepare highway construction plans, specifications, cost estimates and other related contract documents for multiple transportation projects.
These projects require a high level of coordination and have compressed design schedules. The scope of these projects includes complex design features such as roadway geometry and storm water management facilities that are difficult to place within SHA Right of Way projects. Many projects have multiple conflicts with underground and overhead utilities that require coordination efforts to relocate the utilities.
Projects with this degree of complexity are completed by this position.

QualificationsEducation: Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience in professional engineering.

One (1) year of experience must have involved project management.
Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Maryland.
