Duties/Responsibilities
  • Assists with reconciliation of monthly sales and revenue information from systems/terminals and bank accounts, and provides calculations and analysis. Verifies monthly revenue against bank accounts and prepares journal vouchers (JVs) to record source revenue into financial system.
  • Prepares monthly/annual journal entries.
  • Analyzes, verifies, and reconciles debenture transactions in accounting system monthly.
  • Analyzes, verifies, records, and reconciles sinking fund investment transactions and fund contributions. Coordinates sinking fund investment purchase documentation.
  • Prepares investment schedules, cash flow projections, year-end schedules, financial statements, and annual FIR schedules.
  • Investigates and corrects errors in the general ledger as requested.

    Assists to maintain spreadsheets and generates reports.
  • Performs other basic accounting functions as assigned.
  • Provides cost/benefit analyses using financial models and conducts special studies and projects as required.
  • Uses a computer approximately 90% of the time. Files approximately 10% of the time. Occasionally lifts file boxes weighing up to 11 kg/25 lbs, involving bending and reaching.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices, general understanding of financial accounting, and skills in word processing and math are acquired through current enrollment and completion of at least one year of a related university/college program (e.g., Accounting, Business).
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Communication skills to exchange information with others and participate as an effective team member.
  • Computer skills with ability to use software such as Microsoft Office and a financial system.
  • Ability to support and demonstrate the Region’s values.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

To be considered for employment as a student, a person must be: registered as a full-time secondary or post-secondary student in an accredited institution, or currently recognized as having full-time status by the academic institution but applying for a school vacation, practicum or work term, or returning to full-time studies in the next academic term. Students who are in their final year of academic study and who are not intending to return to full-time studies are eligible for student employment up until the time they convocate.

Students participating in education and retraining programs at the post- secondary level, though not full-time students, are eligible for related student employment opportunities, where appropriate.
