Registered Nurse – Pediatrics Night Shift
Full‑time night shift Pediatrics RN works 72 hours bi‑weekly (3 shifts each week), 7p‑7a. Workweek includes weekends and holidays with 8 hours of call time per 4‑week schedule.

Independently provides patient care using the nursing process and performs leadership and teaching duties necessary to support effective patient care. Supports and participates in continuous quality improvement activities. Functions within the limits of State and Federal licensing, regulatory bodies and hospital policies.
Essential Functions- Assesses the biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self‑care, educational and discharge planning needs of patients according to nursing standards.
- Uses knowledge and experience to identify patient needs, prioritize treatment, accurately document and communicate changes in patient assessment.
- Provides initial assessment and reassessments per department standards and documents per policy.
- Anticipates potential changes in patient condition and responds appropriately; plans care based on assessment findings and proposed procedures.
- Ensures an effective plan of care based on nursing diagnosis, incorporating available resources including family, caregivers, other disciplines and community agencies.
- Organizes and prioritizes patient care, seeks assistance when needed, and adapts to department and hospital demands.
- Participates in development of standards of care and implements plan of care in compliance with hospital and nursing policies.
- Commences, documents, and communicates nursing interventions and patient response; updates patient/family on status and changes in care plan.
- Demonstrates flexibility giving and receiving patient assignments based on staffing mix and patient care demands.
- Evaluates nursing care, tools, equipment, policies, procedures and programs; modifies plan of care as needed.
- Provides patient/family education, assesses learning needs, establishes goals, implements teaching plans and evaluates effectiveness.
- Integrates discharge planning and referral into the teaching process; documents teaching per policy.
- Offers support to less experienced staff in patient/family teaching.
- Exhibits professional expectations: incorporates self‑development suggestions, meets all clinical ladder requirements, promotes staff retention and morale.
- Utilizes supplies, equipment, and technology to ensure quality patient care.
- Floats to other nursing units when requested.
- Demonstrates leadership, accountability, effective communication, delegation, precepting, mentoring, and adherence to program policies.
- Reviews quality assurance reports; contributes to evaluation/auditing processes; completes all hospital‑wide and departmental competencies.
Skills and Abilities
- Clinical competency in pediatrics.
- Proficiency with technology and equipment necessary for job duties.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proper body mechanics when handling patients, supplies, and equipment.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment.
- Ability to meet annual requirements of the FH Clinical Ladder.
- Confidentiality in maintaining patient and employee information.
- Competency in operating required equipment to meet patient care needs.
- Licensed Registered Nurse in Maryland or a compact state.
- Associate’s degree in Nursing (Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred or willing to obtain within 5 years).
- Certified in CPR.
- BLS certification required for all nurses within 90 days of hire.
- Pediatrics Emergency Department experience required.
- PALS certification preferred and required after 90 days.
- ENPC certification preferred.
