RN Labor and Delivery Full Time 7p - 7:30a
Seeking a Registered Nurse for a full‑time night shift, 1900 – 0730. The nurse will work 72 hours per pay period (three 12‑hour shifts per week). Holiday rotation, weekend and on‑call requirements.
Job SummaryLabor & Delivery provides obstetric care for patients who are 20+ weeks pregnant and up to 6 weeks postpartum. The unit includes 9 L&D rooms, an OB triage unit, OB ORs, and an OB PACU. The RN independently provides patient care using the nursing process and performs leadership and teaching duties necessary to support effective patient care. The RN also supports and participates in continuous quality improvement activities and operates within the limits of state and federal licensing, regulatory bodies, and hospital policies.
EssentialFunctions
- Assesses patients biophysically, psychosocially, environmentally, self‑care, educationally, and discharge planning according to nursing standards.
- Identifies patient needs and prioritizes treatment, accurately documents and communicates subtle changes in assessment.
- Provides initial assessments and reassessments per organizational and department standards.
- Anticipates potential changes in patients’ condition and responds appropriately.
- Anticipates needs based on assessment findings and proposed procedures or courses of care.
- Ensures an effective plan of care based on care planning standards.
- Initiates individualized plan of care using nursing diagnoses and available resources.
- Organizes and prioritizes patient care efficiently.
- Participates in the development of standards of care.
- Implements plan of care in compliance with policies.
- Completes and documents interventions accurately, communicating pertinent information to the healthcare team.
- Updates families on patient status and changes.
- Demonstrates flexibility in assigning and receiving patient assignments.
- Evaluates nursing care and related equipment.
- Reviews, evaluates, and documents effectiveness of interventions and adjusts the plan as needed.
- Evaluates new and existing equipment, policies, procedures, and programs.
- Collaborates to revise treatment plan based on patient responses.
- Identifies variances and provides recommendations.
- Provides patient/family education.
- Assesses patient/family knowledge, barriers to learning, and readiness to learn.
- Identifies learning needs and establishes teaching goals.
- Implements teaching using interactive methods and aids.
- Communicates progress toward learning goals to other nurses and disciplines.
- Integrates discharge planning into teaching and documents per policy.
- Supports less experienced staff with patient/family teaching.
- Incorporates suggestions for self‑development and performance.
- Meets clinical ladder requirements and promotes staff retention.
- Utilizes supplies, equipment, and technology to ensure quality of patient care.
- Floats to other units as requested.
- Demonstrates leadership and accountability.
- Uses effective communication style within the department.
- Encourages professional interactions with ancillary healthcare givers.
- Delegates appropriately to nursing staff.
- Precepts and mentors RN’s and ancillary staff.
- Adheres to program policies and participates in orientation.
- Reviews QA reports, audits, and completes department competencies.
- Eligible for or currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in Maryland or a compact state.
- Associate’s degree in Nursing (Bachelor of Science preferred or obtainable within 5 years).
- Minimum 1 year Labor & Delivery experience.
- BLS certification required.
- NRP certification required upon hire or within 90 days.
- C‑EFM certification required upon hire or within 1 year.
Medium‑Heavy Work – lifting up to 100 pounds on an infrequent basis (less than one lift every three minutes) and carrying up to 50 pounds while walking. Pushing or pulling up to 115 pounds infrequently or greater than 115 pounds occasionally (no more than once per hour).
