Veterinary Technician Manager – Thrive Pet Healthcare

CARE Veterinary Center provides 24/7 emergency and specialty care to dogs and cats throughout the DC, MD, WV, and PA tri‑state area. We offer Internal Medicine, Surgery, Rehabilitation, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy, supported by a highly trained veterinary team.
Role OverviewAs the Technician Manager
, you will deliver high‑quality nursing care while guiding and supervising a team of veterinary technicians. Your responsibilities include driving shift efficiency, delegating tasks, mentoring staff, and maintaining workflow during both routine and emergency cases.
- Supervise technicians and other medical personnel – evaluate performance, conduct 1:1s and reviews, monitor time reporting, enforce company policies, and communicate new practices.
- Schedule staff according to departmental needs, monitor overtime hours, and ensure proper coverage during shortages.
- Administer on‑call and standard schedules for staff.
- Ensure new staff receive adequate training; mentor all staff on performance and training needs.
- Perform technician or assistant duties as scheduled.
- Liaise with department leads and leadership regarding patient care and hospital operations; resolve issues as needed.
- Touch base daily (when scheduled same day) and weekly with the Hospital Director to discuss updates and hospital needs.
- Attend weekly or bi‑weekly leadership meetings as required.
- Oversee cleaning, stocking, and inventory duties; hold staff accountable as a team.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism concerning employee issues; proactively address concerns.
- Keep hospital management informed of risks that may impact operations or employee relations; work with management to resolve.
- Apply hospital policies and procedures, including those in the Employee Handbook.
- Perform clinical laboratory procedures, medication calculations and administration, venipuncture, catheter placement, animal restraint, vital sign monitoring, client communications, radiographic technique, anesthesiology, patient physical assessments, and veterinary protocols.
- Ensure staff complete Thrive U trainings and remain up to date.
- May consider an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager.
- 5+ years of veterinary technician experience (Emergency/Specialty preferred).
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience strongly preferred.
- Strong communication and mentoring skills.
- Flexible schedule including weekends and holidays.
- Credentialed tech (CVT, LVT, RVT, LVMT) preferred; equivalent experience considered.

Competitive salary starting at $70,000 per year. Salary will be negotiated based on credentials and experience.
