The company’s pipeline includes CNS, immunology, immuno‑oncology, infectious disease, and rare disease candidates, and it operates an advanced infectious disease research facility in Frederick, Md.

Position Overview

Tonix seeks a highly motivated Principal Scientist with a background in immunology, autoimmunity, or oncology. The role involves end‑to‑end product development—from discovery to clinical evaluation—and requires a strong publication record and interdisciplinary teamwork. The candidate will work at the Tonix Research and Development Center in Frederick, Md., utilizing state‑of‑the‑art equipment such as high‑content imaging, mass spectrometry, and spectral flow cytometry.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain a robust flow cytometry pipeline.
  • Conduct independent and original research supporting the Tonix portfolio.
  • Develop novel methods and assays to contribute to the RDC research pipeline.
  • Establish in‑vitro and in‑vivo models to evaluate immunotherapeutics for autoimmunity and oncology.
  • Collect, analyze, and evaluate data.
  • Interpret data, troubleshoot technical issues, and make decisions.
  • Prepare scientific presentations, reports, manuscripts, and grant proposals.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Design, optimize, and standardize novel in‑house flow cytometry assays.
  • Establish multi‑parameter panels using spectra flow cytometry and define data acquisition pipelines.
  • Provide scientific leadership in cell‑based, molecular, and biochemical assays.
  • Independently troubleshoot, problem‑solve, and execute experiments.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally in a matrix environment to drive research objectives.
  • Characterize binding properties of novel proteins and antibodies with technologies such as Octet and high‑content imaging.
  • Lead cross‑functional project teams and propose innovative discoveries.
  • Integrate inputs to develop a robust strategic R&D plan aligned with Tonix’s innovation goals.
  • Uphold company mission and values, emphasizing accountability, innovation, integrity, quality, and teamwork.
  • Support special projects and business initiatives as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
  • Strong record of independent, high‑quality, creative, and impactful research in viral vectors, vaccines, antibody, and protein discovery.
  • Ability to generate hypotheses, evaluate data, and design new studies.
  • Proficiency with cutting‑edge drug screening techniques (high‑content imaging, microscopy, cell‑based screening).
  • Experience interrogating large data sets using computational and bioinformatics tools.
  • Minimal travel required.
  • Team player capable of thriving in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Highly organized, results‑driven collaborator.
  • Capability to perform essential duties with or without accommodation.

Location:

Frederick, Md. | Salary: $116,600 – $177,800
